În istoria muzicii există artiști care definesc o epocă și alții care, deși aproape uitați, ajung să o explice mai bine decât numele consacrate. Vector Motion aparține celei de-a doua categorii. Formată la București la începutul anilor 1980 de cinci muzicieni cu pregătire clasică și o pasiune comună pentru jazz, fusion și sofisticarea armonică a pop-ului occidental, trupa a dezvoltat un limbaj muzical remarcabil prin naturalețea cu care îmbina disciplina conservatorului cu accesibilitatea muzicii radio.

Primele compoziții au fost concepute într-un studio improvizat într-un apartament din București, în jurul unui magnetofon TEAC, câtorva sintetizatoare și a nenumărate nopți petrecute rescriind aranjamente. Participarea la Montclair Jazz Forum în 1983 a reprezentat primul contact al formației cu scena muzicală europeană, unde precizia interpretării și rafinamentul armonic au atras atenția producătorilor și inginerilor de sunet. În anul următor, Meridian Records a invitat trupa să înregistreze ceea ce avea să rămână cea mai reprezentativă lucrare a sa.

Formed in Bucharest in the early 1980s by five conservatory-trained musicians united by a shared passion for jazz, fusion and sophisticated pop, the band developed a distinctive musical language that balanced classical discipline with the melodic accessibility of contemporary West Coast recordings.

Their earliest compositions took shape in a modest home studio, centered around a TEAC tape machine, a handful of synthesizers, and countless nights spent refining arrangements by hand. Their appearance at the Montclair Jazz Forum in 1983 marked the band’s first encounter with the wider European music community, where their precision, harmonic sophistication and understated musicianship attracted the attention of producers, engineers and fellow performers alike. The following year, Meridian Records invited the group to record what would become the defining work of their career.
